Hello Chiptune lovers!
Now that Summer's over, and we're settling down into another end of another year, we thought it'd be a good time to give you all an update on what's been going on here at ChipBit.
Firstly, we've very recently upgraded our servers. Our old faithful server that ran the stream all the way from the station's launch back in 2014 right up to now, has now been decommissioned, to be replaced by our shiny new servers, offering us SSD transfer speeds, more resources, and overall better and more stable service for our listeners. We hope you like it just as much as we do!
For those in the know, while we were migrating the servers across, we also took the opportunity to change the type of streaming server from Icecast2 to Shoutcast2 using Liquidsoap AutoDJ. This gives us the added bonus of the Shoutcast directory and more up to date software to run our stream on! Whoop!
Anyway, enough jargon. What else is going on in the world of ChipBit?
We're going to be trying something out that we're yet to do. Seasonal programming for our streams. This means mixing up the 24/7 playlist from just being a 'random' selection to a selection of tunes that more suits the season we're in. We're going to be first trying this with Christmas 2016, so listen out for some festive tunes entering the playlist around that time.
In addition to this, we're also looking to add more 'bumpers' to our stream. Bumpers or Idents are the little 10 - 20 second clips that play every few songs to remind you that 'you're listening to ChipBit Radio'. We'd love for you guys, our listeners to get involved and be able to get your voices on our stream, after all, you're the most important part of our station. If you'd be interested in creating a bumper, email firstname.lastname@example.org or use the form on the contact page and we'll get back to you with more info!
The last thing I wanted to let you know about today is that we're always looking to improve our services to you. We're passionate about Chiptune, and we'll never play ads, or monitize our website for our own personal gain in any way. We want to add more features to the website, and we're going to be rolling out a plethora of bug fixes and new features in the coming months and years, so stay tuned for that.
Lastly, thank you for supporting ChipBit. We love you all!
